I am an atheist – I have made no secret of it!
yet I have friends/neighbours/work colleagues (christian. hindu, sikh, muslim) who believe in a God
our differing beliefs do not prevent us being friends – since none of us can be certain who is in the right, we put such differences aside and do not pay them much attention when determining whether or not we should be friends
I am not so arrogant to assume that I am right in my disbelief in a God that I attempt to persuade my friends to abandon their beliefs and adopt mine – after all, I could be mistaken in thinking there is no GOD
however . . .
UK Prime Minister, David Cameron (a self-professed christian) has recently reiterated his claim that the UK is a Christian country – http://tinyurl.com/oguelp3
now his (arse licking) Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan (another Christian) has followed her leader and wants schools to teach our kids that the UK is a mainly christian country – http://tinyurl.com/nltbwsl
well excuse me for being awkward – but let’s look at some facts rather than the fantasies some politicians would like to believe are true
last time I checked (about 20 minutes ago), the population of the UK is 64.1 million folk – http://tinyurl.com/jz4uqr9
and the number of those who regularly attend a christian religious service?
around 5% of the population – http://tinyurl.com/n6paohd
5% ?
and how many of that figure are kids dragged along by their parent?
in any case, no matter how you do the arithmetic, there is no way 5% can be construed a majority !
time for our christian politicians to stop deluding themselves and recognise the real world we live in instead of the fantasy land they wish we occupied – no way can 5% of the UK population attending a christian religious service warrant describing the UK as a christian country !
